There are many ways through which you can check your EPF Balance. Over the years, EPFO has launched various facilities to help subscribers make inquires about their EPF account balance. EPFO also launched a missed call inquiry service and mobile app for the benefit of subscribers.

Is your PF amount less than expected

There are chances that your provident fund account balance may seem less than your expectations due to some reasons as listed below:

• An employer’s entire contribution is not deposited into the PF account in that 8.33% goes for pension while the remaining goes into the PF account. In a nutshell, the PF balance can seem less due to deduction vis-a-vis employee pension scheme
• You may make the mistake of calculating your PF balance based on your current contributions. It is important to note that your provident fund contribution increases with higher remunerations
• It is possible that your account balance may not have been updated

EPFO currently has seven methods to help people check their provident account balance as listed below:

• Download PF Passbook via member portal
• Download PF Passbook
• EPF Mobile APP
• EPF Missed Call Service
• EPF Balance Online
• EPF Balance via SMS

• Check Balance via UAN

  The Universal Account number which is given to all eligible members of employees provident fund does not change after you change your job. You can generate your UAN. Upon activation, you will get an SMS every month on your contribution and balance amount.

• Download PF Passbook via member portal

  Prior to the launch of the UAN portal, employees would download their provident fund account passbook from the member portal. The member portal which is easy to navigate can come to your rescue in case you forget your UAN password or cannot login into the UAN portal or forget your UAN password.

  • You have to register in the member portal to check your provident fund account balance. You will have to fill in basic details for successful registration
  • To log into the member portal for downloading your passbook, you have to enter your PF number only. The portal does not require you to have some specific password in that you can login with the help of your mobile number and KYC document number.
  • You can successfully download your passbook after entering your PF number. You will receive a onetime password on your mobile for verification/authentication purpose.

• Download PF Passbook via UAN

  You can download your PF passbook from the UAN portal as well. You have to activate your UAN account, following which, you can download the passbook. By choosing to check your PF balance through this method allows you to check your balance amount in addition to the full statement of provident fund account.

• EPF Mobile APP

  You can receive your PF balance after entering your mobile number and UAN by downloading the mobile APP which can be downloaded from the official website of EPFO. You can also make use of this APP to activate your UAN. What’s more, this APP can be used by both pensioners (pension status) and employers (transaction status).

• EPF Missed Call Service

  In one of the simplest ways of checking your account balance offered free, you have to give a missed call to a number, following which, you will receive an SMS on your latest balance. The number is 011 2290 1406.

• Check EPF Balance Online

  As per this method which is not used very often, you should enter details such as your mobile number and PF number on the ‘know your PF balance page‘. As a result, balance details are sent to your mobile. However, you get details regarding your employer contribution, pension amount and employee contribution separately.

• PF Balance via SMS

  You can check your balance amount in your provident fund account via an SMS in your language. The SMS service can be useful if you cannot make a call from your mobile. An SMS has to be sent in the following format to 7738 299 899.
